Tennis Scholarships are offered at over 1800 universities and colleges across America. This gives student-athletes of various abilities and academic backgrounds the opportunity to enrol in higher education, whilst maintaining a full time tennis career.
Collegiate tennis in America is played in the spring with each team competing against other universities and colleges. This provides student-athletes with the opportunity to compete against the best young tennis players in America both regionally and nationally. The climate in the USA will allow players to develop in favourable weather conditions whilst indoor facilities provide students with opportunities to train over the winter months.
With full-time professional coaching you will develop technically, physically and mentally. Student-athletes will train using advanced methods for physical conditioning including weight and cardiovascular training and of course, on court practice.
Some of the world’s top tennis players have made the transition from collegiate tennis to the professional game. Former student athletes currently on the professional circuit are; James Blake, John Isner and the Bryan twins Bob & Mike to name a few.
Most importantly, a tennis scholarship gives players career options outside of the game by using their degree. You may have thought about attending a tennis academy and whilst these academies provide excellent coaching, they may not take care of your academic needs. In the long run you have to consider the risk involved if you do not enter the professional game or make a living from coaching tennis.
Players will be expected to have an LTA rating or ITF ranking to have a chance of entering US system.
A tennis scholarship in America paves the way for students to maximise their potential on and off court.
