Our head golf consultant Andy Newman believes it is imperative that we fully assess each candidate individually in order to provide a clear and detailed evaluation of their chances of getting a golf scholarship in America. We hold assessments throughout the year for male and female golfers in the UK, Europe and Middle East. Golfers aged 14-20 should apply online to arrange an assessment. We will also be attending events worldwide to find talented young golfers.
Golfers are assessed on both golfing and academic capability. Handicap, scoring average, score pattern and events entered will provide us with a platform to gauge your playing ability compared to college golfers in the USA. Technical aspects such as swing, ball striking, distance, accuracy, short game and demenour on the golf course are important to recruiting college coaches and the golf program at United Sports USA.
Academic performance plays an equal role in the golf assessment process. Students seeking a golf scholarship in the USA will be “student athletes” and not just golfers. Students are required to meet academic eligibility criteria to enter NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA. This criteria varies for each governing body. As part of your assessment we will calculate your grade point average which will provide an indication of the most suitable academic environment for each student to continue their studies.
During the assessment day, we will meet with the student and parent[s]/guardian[s] to discuss the entire process of becoming a full time student athlete in America. If you are located abroad, we will arrange a skype call with you.
Summary of the golf assessment day:
For students from outside the UK, swing footage may be used to assist the golf assessment.
Note* Golf assessments for students are free of charge. However, the applicant is responsible for covering travel costs and golf fees.
