The President continues a tradition started by President George W. Bush by honouring championship teams and student athletes from across the NCAA with a reception at the White House. Various championship teams and players are recognised for their efforts to give back to their communities, continuing an effort begun by President Obama of sports champions being commended for service as part of a White House visit.
With his usual light hearted tone President Obama welcomes over 650 athletes and almost 150 coaches and staff members. He gives a great remarks about the aptitude of student athletes and the hard work that makes their achievements so impressive. President also puts an emphasis on the selfless attitude that separates the good from the great.
